Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR)
(PCR is utilized pursuant to a license agreement with Roche Molecular Systems, Inc.)
Note: This test is not recommended for the evaluation of suspected sexual abuse, for other medico-legal indications, or for evaluation of children ≤14 years of age. In these circumstances, a genital culture is the test of choice.

Specimen Requirements
Urine (Males or Females)
Collect specimen as follows:
1. Patient should not have urinated for one hour prior to specimen collection.
2. Collect first catch urine (Approximately 10 to 50 ml of the initial urine stream) into a sterile urine collection cup.
3. Maintain sterility and forward properly
Note:
1. For best results female patients should not cleanse the labial area prior to collection.
2. Spermicidal agents and feminine powder sprays interfere with assay and should not be used prior to collection.
3. Maximum storage of unpreserved urine specimen is 24 hrs. at 2-30° C.
4. Swab specimens collected with the cobas PCR Female Swab Sample Kit and urine/fluid collected with the cobas PCR Urine Sample Kit may be stored at 2-30° C for up to 12 months once the specimens have been stabilized in cobas PCR Media.
