Specimen Requirements
Specimen must arrive in laboratory within 2 hours of draw.
Draw blood in a dark green-top (sodium heparin) tube(s) on wet ice. Send 1 mL (pediatric: 0.5 mL) of sodium heparin whole blood on wet ice.
Reference Values
0-3% of total hemoglobin
Critical value: >8.0%
