Specimen Requirements

Draw blood in a plain, red-top tube(s). (Serum gel tube is not acceptable.) Spin down and send 4 mL of serum. Do not refrigerate prior to separation of serum from cells. Allow specimen to clot at 37° C. Separate serum from red cells immediately after blood clots.
Note:  If specimen can not be separated from red cells immediately, it must be kept warm until arrival in laboratory.
